Frequently asked questions

Do I need a translation for my EU driving licence?

No. EU/EEA driving licences are automatically valid throughout the EU including Germany. A translation is only required for non-EU/EEA licences β€” USA, UK (post-Brexit), Russia, Turkey, Egypt, China, India, and all other countries outside the EU/EEA.

My driving licence has codes β€” will these be translated?

Yes. Our sworn translators render all vehicle category codes (B, BE, C1, D) and restriction codes (corrective lenses, automatic only) into their full German-language equivalents β€” exactly what the FΓΌhrerscheinstelle requires.

How much does a certified driving licence translation cost?

From €53.90 (PDF only) Β· €63.90 (PDF + printed original by free post) Β· €74.90 (Express 24h). Most driving licences are single-page. Select 2 pages if information appears on both sides of your licence.

Which countries driving licences can you translate?

We translate driving licences from all countries β€” USA, UK, Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, Egypt, India, Pakistan, Iran, Syria, China, Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and more. All scripts are covered: Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Devanagari, CJK.

My UK driving licence β€” do I need a translation post-Brexit?

Yes. Since January 2021, UK licences are no longer automatically recognised in Germany. UK residents have a 6-month grace period from Anmeldung, after which they must convert their licence. A certified translation is required for the conversion application.
